Caterpillar Joliet Hydraulics Plant

In December 2003, CenterPoint acquired a five-building, 2.9-million-square-foot industrial complex from Caterpillar Corporation for more than $75 million, with Caterpillar signing a long-term lease back for half of the property. The remaining half is currently being redeveloped. After operations at the three smaller facilities were consolidated into the two larger buildings in early 2005, demolition, cleanup and redevelopment commenced.

This 264-acre complex is located just east of the I-55/I-80 intersection near Joliet, in the heart of the expanding I-80 corridor. The property is fronted by more than a mile of Des Plaines River shoreline, allowing river shipping access via barge transportation. With direct rail and barge service, the site is ideal for a range of transportation-intensive manufacturing and distribution uses, including ethanol production.
